About This Excursion
Aït Ben Haddou is one of Morocco's most iconic sights — a fortified clay kasbah village classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, perched above the Ounila River on the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Its dramatic earthen architecture has made it a favorite filming location for productions including Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
The drive itself is part of the experience, crossing the High Atlas via the Tizi N'Tichka pass (2,260m) with sweeping mountain views along the way. En route, you'll stop at Telouet Kasbah, the 18th-century former residence of the powerful Glaoui Pashas, before continuing on to Aït Ben Haddou itself.
It's a longer day than Ouzoud or Imlil, but the combination of mountain scenery, history and architecture makes it one of the most rewarding full-day trips from Marrakech.
